Vicar stabbed on way to visit fellow parishioner On 1 November last year, Reverend Ian Brady, 45, was leaving his church in north London, when he saw a figure looming in the church car park. As he approached to speak to the man, he was stabbed. The married father-of-two had worked with underprivileged children in Brazil before coming to St Anselm's Church in Stanmore, Harrow, a year before the stabbing. |
The incident has left Mr Brady so traumatized that he cannot talk about it.
Neighbours describe he vicar as "a man who dedicated his life to looking after the unfortunate" and a "much loved" parish priest.
The stabbing took place at the day of the Hindu new year festival, Diwali, and streets had been busy with people making their way to and from the temple as part of their celebration.
Three days passed before police arrested a 23-year-old man who is currently in a secure unit.
