The immense impact on survivors
When a person is stabbed, it doesn't only affect him-or herself. The stabbing has a dramatic impact on the families and friends of the injured or killed, and often also on the local community.
Survivors of knife stabbings along with their families and friends often suffer long term trauma.
An estimate of over 83 per cent of victims of violent crime experience trauma, with over 24 per cent suffering from serious trauma. (British crime survey)
The symptoms of trauma include anger, shock, annoyance, fear, loss of confidence and feeling of vulnerability, and victims are often left without a reason for their injury.
