A blogger Cobain initiated Losheng Anxiety Disorder Self-help Group to help people who are concerned about the demolition of a leprosy sanatorium in Taiwan.
The community gathered on the high street of Taipei last Friday to introduce people to the problem of Losheng Leprosy Sanatorium and appeal for their support.
For three years, the residents of Losheng have boycotted the government’s attempt to move them out of their houses in order to build up a metro terminal on the site.
Anxiety is a common symptom among many of the residents and those who are involved in the campaign.
According to Cobain’s blog, anyone who is used to searching for “Losheng” on the Internet everyday, talking about “Losheng” with friends anytime, and thinking about “Losheng” anywhere, is welcome to join in the group.
He has also introduced Master Yoda as their mascot to keep up the interest of the online community.
“Master Yoda is a character in the movie Star Wars. He doesn’t look outstanding but shows exceptional competence, which is inspiring,” said Cobain.
Doctor Chen Chun-Hsin said that support from the group usually motivates people, “However if someone feels depressed easily, loses their interest in activities, or cannot eat or sleep well, they should consider seeing a doctor,” he warned.
Cobain explained that the idea is purely parody. “I started the community being inspired by the establishment of IDEA Taiwan (a leprosy care organisation) and wanted to draw the attention of other bloggers.”
A member of the main campaign group Losheng Youth Lin Wan-Chun said that she is pleased to see people contributing to the movement in any possible ways.Related story :
