The Losheng Sanatorium residents are refusing to attend a meeting this Friday to express their objection to the harsh decision on the reservation boundary of their houses.
The meeting is going to be held by the Public Construction Commission (PCC) to check the progress of the metro terminal engineering plan carried out by the Department of Rapid Transit System (DORTS).
In the previous meeting held on May 30, the PCC had chosen the “thirty nine-building reserved” plan which caused an outcry amongst many concerned about the engineering safety.
Losheng residents claim that the DORTS misconducted the hydrogeological test which might put the historical buildings in the compound under threat.
They also argued that the PCC ignored their insistence on staying in the sanatorium while the construction is going on.
Ms Huang Lin Ling-Ling, the Taipei County Councillor who advocates early completion of Sinjhuang Line metro for years, also expressed her concern.
“Engineering safety should always be the priority. We trust the DORTS but if someone would be endangered under the construction, the engineering work should stop anyway,” said Cllr Huang Lin.
At the meeting, the DORTS is going to submit a thorough evaluation of Losheng area’s hydrogeology and the solution to the residents’ on-site stay.
None of the consultants on Losheng’s side have been invited to the meeting, however.
In a statement released on Thursday midnight, Losheng residents claimed that they found the chairman of the PCC Wu Ze-Cheng’s behaviour suspicious as he is avoiding any fair debate on the issue and attempting to complete the project quickly.
