George’s story

The anti-animal testing group SPEAK says George was a wild caught macaque monkey taken from his homeland and experimented on for several years at Oxford University.

According to their sources the monkey underwent several experiments including invasive brain surgery and the researcher using George is the same man investigated by police for cruelty to a monkey he was experimenting on.

George’s eyes were severely damaged to create lesions for the purpose of the experiments. It’s alleged the researcher laughed as he described to his audience then taking George out into the university park as a further part of the test. George later died in his cage.

Founder of SPEAK Mel Broughton is not surprised by this account.

“The only way animals will leave Oxford University is in a bin bag chucked in the back of a lorry.”

Bea’s story

Bea the beagle was discovered terrified and emaciated by the side of the road. The dog was found by Kristin von Kreisler who planned to return her to her owner.

Once Mrs von Kreisler discovered ‘home’ was an animal research laboratory she decided to keep Bea herself.

“She was a mess, used and abused the vet said when he saw her, and she wouldn’t eat and wouldn’t bark; she was completely silent. She’d always jump off my lap and had no concept of hugging.”

But once she got over her past “she entered rooms with the confidence of a model swishing her skirts on a Paris runway,” says Mrs von Kreisler.

“I don’t know how she escaped but there lots of stories around that time about lab technicians releasing the animals as they felt sorry for them – that dog has completely changed my life and has taught me about the miracle of healing.”

Mrs von Kreisler is now an animal welfare advocate and writer and works to help lab animals and Bea spent 15 happy years with her.
