Should we be testing on animals to find cures to human diseases?
Are animal rights activists justified in breaking the law?

"I'm not condoning violent protests or threats but I can't condone animal testing either, it's just too close to the torture of the defenceless. And I'm appalled that someone seems believe the police can get away with manhandling peaceful protestors. If they've been to prison then they've served their time and it's illegal to punish them again for that crime, does that commentator want to end up in a police state?"

"As a bio-chemist I know I may one day have to test on animals and if it means saving human lives I'm happy with that. No scientist wants to hurt living things but it is ridiculous to claim any animal means as much as a person, and remember we don't just save one person through medical research but millions." "You say the police were out of line when they arrested people at the Oxford protest but what about their previous records? At least one of them has been to prison before so the police are right to be concerned about them. I'm glad they're not allowed to get away with intimidating people. "

"I agree that animal rights activists are more like terrorists today - how can they justify threatening people when they're complaining about animals being hurt. Two wrongs don't make a right after all and it's about time they realised that." SL, 15/06/06
"Those sticking up for the voiceless animals always seem to get a hard time of it. The animals can't speak for themselves so someone else needs to." KF, 12/06/06
