The body of a 19-year-old stab victim found in Hampshire flat

Jolene Colpus was discovered Monday in her Basingstoke flat and her body is likely to have been laying there for ten days after she was stabbed to death, the police have revealed.

Ms Colpus of Winterthur Way, Basingstoke, was last seen 3 June and had not been heard from in ten days.

A friend, Tara Vanhinsbergh,19, notified the police after Ms Colpus failed to answer her mobile phone.

Ms Colpus lived alone in a ground floor housing association flat.

The police went into the flat where they discovered Ms. Copus´s body which may have laid there for ten days.

There were no signs of a break-in at the property.

Det Supt Andrew Stewart of Hampshire police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of the murder.

"We need to hear from anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the area of Wintherthur," he said.

A post mortem examination on Tuesday revealed the woman died of a single stab wound.

It is not clear where the woman was attacked, but a potential weapon is being inspected and forensic evidence collected from the scene as well as CCTV from the area, which is being examined.

The stabbing comes in the midst of the national knife amnesty "and once again shows that knives are exceptionally available and extremely dangerous," said Mr. Stewart.
