Bournemouth recycling drive gets underway 11:55 30/06/06
Bournemouth Borough Council is playing catch up with other district authorities this summer – some months after its rivals initiated more comprehensive recycling in the area.
Bournemouth Council is currently issuing separate wheelie bins to households for the disposal of non-recyclable waste. Householders’ existing bigger bins will then be used for the disposal of recyclable refuse including glass, plastic bottles, cans, paper and cardboard. Kerbside collection of recyclable waste is to start on 4 September, with the day of collection dependent on where residents live.

Poole and Purbeck District Councils have been running similar recycling schemes for some months. Poole’s effort has earned the authority a place in the top 18 councils for recycling, according to their website.
Asked what prompted the increased recycling drive in Bournemouth, the council spokeswoman said that government targets need to be met.
