Imam saved girl
from honour killing
An imam saved a Muslim girl’s life by not telling her parents that she was pregnant from a boyfriend as “her life came first”.
Imam Majid Yasin of the Islamic Centre in Bournemouth said there was a case a few years ago when a Muslim girl from a middle Eastern family consulted him because she was pregnant by her boyfriend.
“There was a fifty-fifty chance that her family would decide to kill her,” the imam recalled.
“I considered her life as most important, so I
helped her to have an abortion and to be made a virgin again in hospital."
“Her well-being was the first priority, so her family never learned about the incident,” Mr Yasin said, “but she had learned her lesson and will certainly teach her own children how to behave.”
It would be a great shame for a Muslim family if a daughter slept with her boyfriend before marriage, the imam said.
“Some parents are ignorant, they might decide to kill her, unfortunately! Islam forbids to kill sinners,” he added.
A girl should marry within the Muslim community as her children would abide by the religion of the father and stay with him in case of a divorce.
“Marrying a non-Muslim, a girl turns against her parents and the whole family, that might not welcome her any more as a result.”
The imam added that he knew all European women had relationships before marrying: “I respect this way, but it´s not my way."
