London’s
first GI Diet sandwich shop today employed two new members of
staff due to the soaring demand from slimmers’, but dieticians
remain sceptical.
Energi
Box, which serves up GI friendly foods was opened last week by
former Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch broker Viki Cornish:

“I wanted to offer people
in the City a healthy alternative and have been studying the GI
Diet for years. I am overwhelmed by the demand and have already
started a delivery service.”
Customer and
City worker, Annabel Hall said: “I’m on the GI Diet
so it saves me a lot of time coming here rather than having to
make my lunch before work.”
Dieticians
unconvinced
The popular GI
Diet has been followed by diabetics for years to control blood
sugar levels but dieticians are unconvinced about its effectiveness
for weight loss.
Doctor Frankie
Phillips, a registered dietician for the British Dietetic Association
said: “Unlike many fad diets the GI Diet is nutritionally
complete because it contains all the food groups, but just because
a food is low in GI it doesn’t make it low in fat. There
has not been enough research done to suggest that it works as
a weight control strategy.”
