Lauren's Story
35-year-old Lauren from Leeds battled weight issues for years before she decided to go under the knife in 2005. She went to a recommended surgeon for a consultation, and four days later she flew to a Belgian clinic for a breast augmentation and lift.
When Lauren came round from her operation, she noticed that one breast was a lot higher than the other.
The surgeon reassured her that the swelling would go down, but six months later one breast still didn't look right.
After a second surgeon told her that both of her implants hadn't been inserted correctly, Lauren launched legal proceedings against the clinic. She won her case, but has been left with misshapen breasts and less self-confidence than before the surgery.
Kelly's Story
33-year-old Kelly from Lincolnshire nearly died when she travelled to Spain to undergo one of the most invasive of cosmetic procedures- the tummy tuck.
Coming round from the anaesthetic, Kelly was alone, and in terrible pain. Soon afterwards she was dispatched from the clinic to a nearby hotel, bleeding, and hardly able to walk.
Kelly awoke in the middle of the night, untended to, and in serious pain. An agonising walk to the bathroom left her doubled up in pain, and she collapsed, ripping her wound open as she fell. Her doctor arrived at the hotel minutes before the ambulance and forced her to send it away, saying he would fix her, but he never did.
Legal proceedings against her negligent surgeon were put on hold whilst he was investigated by the General Medical Council, but as he was not registered, Kelly has since been forced to drop the charges.
Karen's Story
48-year-old Karen is an avid believer in going for surgery abroad. Having suffered a botched boob job in Cyprus, she then travelled to Turkey a few months later to have it sorted out, and is now happy with her new budget boobs. She has paid more now than she would have if she'd stayed in England in the first place, but she is adamant that going abroad for surgery is no different to staying in England, and lawyer Mike Saul agrees.
Nanette's Story
63-year-old Nanette lives in the Isle of Man where cosmetic clinics are few and far between, so when she chose to undergo a breast lift, she had to go abroad.
