'Government are Hypocrites'-Islamic Spokesman
Wednesday 9 June,2010

In the wake of the Home Office's student visa tightening system in the UK, an Islamic spokesman has ridiculed the government’s effort labelling it as ‘the highest form of hypocrisy’

The statement by Tariq Palmer, a spokesman for the Bournemouth Islamic Centre was in response to the recent story surrounding former Attorney General, Baroness Scotland, and a student immigrant Loloahi Tapui, 27, who tricked her onto hiring her as a cleaner after overstaying her student visa by four years.

Tapui, a Tongan was jailed for eight months after being found guilty of fraud at Southwark Crown Court last month.

She admitted possessing a passport with a counterfeit visa stamp between 7 June 2006 and 19 September 2009.

Mr Palmer claimed: “The government have known for years that there are illegals working in hotels, restaurants in London and they have left them alone because they know if they got rid of these people, half the hotels in London would close.”

“This is the hypocrisy of government because a few years ago, there were illegals working even in the House of Commons. It is cynical to occasionally bring the subject up and throw accusations around and tighten the law,” he concluded.
