Recovery for life?

People are under the misconception that recovery ends with rehabilitation. However, though you may be sober and the drink is out of your system, the addiction is always there.

Alcoholism is a life-long disease.

Therapy and rehabilitation lead to significant improvements in the severity of substance abuse and its effects. However, a large percentage of patients relapse into heavy drinking after primary treatment has ended. It is for this reason that patients are frequently referred to aftercare programs in an effort to prevent relapse.

After rehabilitation, support can be sought in a number of ways. Physical activity, workshops and social work are all part of after care.

Private organisations like Vita Nova and Team First (both in Bournemouth), offer a number of facilities for recovering addicts and help them in their journey to remain sober and productive.
