HEALTH IMPLICATIONS

Nuclear power stations are causing leukaemia in children and increasing the risk of cancer for local residents claim protesters.
Stop Hinkley campaigners are calling for an end to nuclear power before the government’s publication of the energy review.
They argue that the radiation emitted from nuclear reactors has serious health implications and therefore nuclear power should not have a place in the UK’s energy policy.
Jo Brown is from the Stop Hinkley Campaign Group.
Going Green went to the nuclear reactor at Hinkley Point to ask how the nuclear industry defends these findings. Martin Pearce is from British Energy.
There is evidently some controversy surrounding these issues so going green asked Friends of the Earth’s Mike Birkin if he could explain these contradictions.
Stop Hinkley campaigner Jo Brown acknowledged that government and industries guidelines for radiation levels are not being breached but argued that radiation levels are ridiculously too high.
