Of all the online gaming companies which have arrived on these shores Mansion.com is by far the most recognisable.

The company was strongly linked with a world record breaking £75 million shirt sponsorship deal with Manchester United in early 2006 before signing a £34 million deal with Premiership rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Such a big deal illustrates the scale in which online gaming has become part of British culture. Experts such as Dr Jan Wise expect the online industry to continue to grow and create gamblers at an increased rate,

“Online gaming is by far the biggest worry, you don’t even have to be at home but at any internet café or place with PC’s, all you need is a credit card”.

Manchester United were said to have cooled on the deal with Mansion as their American owners felt uneasy about linking their brand with the gambling industry. Chief executive David Gill was quoted in saying, “We passed up the opportunity to do the world’s biggest shirt deal to do the right shirt deal”.

Tottenham Hotspur appears to have no such reservations and is preparing to launch a co-branded internet gaming site with a joint share in revenues.

Mansion are very keen to establish themselves in Britain and the Far East and Premiership football is seen as an ideal medium, with 888.com and 32Red PLC already sponsoring Middlesbrough and Aston Villa respectively.

The company which is based in Gibraltar provides online poker, casino tables such as Roulette and Blackjack, and a sports exchange allowing members to bet on international sporting events.

Mansion is owned by Indonesian billionaire Putera Sampoerna. He’s the third richest man in Indonesia with his family having made $2 billion from the sale of their cigarette business to the Altria Group.
