Birmingham is a city famed for its regeneration; from the new Bullring construction to the clubs and bars of Broad Street. Currently Birmingham’s East side is under development with Millennium Point as the centrepiece.
Birmingham is currently on the shortlist to house a large Casino at its NEC site.
Harpreet Rayet is an Urban Regeneration Officer for Birmingham City Council and in his opinion a Casino may not meet all Birmingham’s regeneration needs. (Mr Rayets opinions are not those of the city council).
He cites certain problems:
The site is within two miles of Star City which is the largest leisure complex in Europe (and currently Britains largest Casino complex) harming business as a result. Another problem is the fact the site is in a largely Muslim area which could cause problems as gambling is not a permitted occupation for Muslims.
