LUCY: The public see lap-dancing clubs as dirty. I don't think people who work in them see it like that. The whole industry is classed as fun; it's a laugh if you don't take it too seriously. Its fantasy, it's got to be taken light-heartedly. And films make strippers out as filthy, on crack, working in clubs run by drug dealers and gangsters. And it's absolutely not like that. I think the public need to switch on and realise it's not that bad. People need to know that they're there, and if they're done right, they're safe.
TIA: It's got really bad. I don't actually know how the girls put up with it. Girls dread going up to big groups of guys because they just look at them like this piece of meat. And you might think "what else do you expect?" But when I started that's not what it was at all.
TIA: When I look back, I wouldn't say I'm ashamed of it all because I used the money well. But I'd never go back to it. And people who I know that still do it, I think "you've really got to get out of that, it's really not good". I'm absolutely positive that 95% of the girls hate the job, but they're addicted to the easy money and they genuinely don't have any skills to do anything else. A lot of them have children to support, and they can't afford to go into education, they don't have anything else in the pipeline. They hate the job but they'll just keep doing it. They’ve got nothing else. They’re stuck.
APRIL: You need to be careful. Really careful. You can make good money if you stick at it, but there are so many people out there you just want to fuck you over and treat you like shit.
LUCY: Do I enjoy it? Yeah, I enjoy it. But I'm not naive about anything, because all I am in that club is tits and ass. That's fine by me, because I know it. At the end of the day it's a job, and I think of it as a job. But it is a weird job, maybe because other people perceive it as a weird job. I have to take my clothes off. But there is a stereotype attached to this job. When people hear what I do they get an image of me, that I'm always wearing mini-skirts, knee high boots, that I get my tits out all the time, and I've got a personality to match. But I don't come across like that when I'm not working. And while I get a lot of stick for being a stripper, I'm laughing to the bank.
