WELCOME TO STRIPPED: BRITAIN'S LAP DANCING CULTURE

This multi-media website aims to illustrate the current debates surrounding  lap-dancing clubs in the UK, to contextualise the current situation, and to offer an insight into those involved in the industry – whether performers, businesspeople or concerned critics. It is designed to give an overview of where the industry finds itself in Britain today.

It's a lucrative business. Over the last four years, the number of licensed lap-dancing clubs, where performers strip for paying customers, has rocketed to over 350. And more are opening all the time.

Part of the reason for such expansion is that under current UK law, these clubs are viewed simply as entertainment venues, no different to a high street coffee shop or a local pub. Now, politicians and pressure groups are calling for new limits to be placed on these establishments – they claim that lap-dancing degrades performers and customers alike, and that such an explosion of business has negative effects on the areas where lap-dancing clubs spring up.

Those within the industry claim that it is all harmless, if sensual, entertainment.
