Sexual politics are subjective. Something acceptable to one may be distasteful or even outrageous to another. As to whether a visit to a lap-dancing club is a harmless, entertaining night out or complicity in a machine that turns women into commodified sex objects, this website offers no answers. Hopefully it highlights the conflicts currently defining the industry. What is clear is that many people find these clubs and their wider implications to society hard to consider in shades of grey. To claim that all of these clubs offer harmless entertainment and nothing more, or, conversely, to suggest that their presence exacerbates a culture of objectification of, and even violence towards, women is perhaps missing the point. The law may be poised to stop the rapid expansion seen in recent years, but like any industry that supplies demand, and there certainly is a demand, they’re here to stay.
