Welcome to ‘The British Graduate’.
This website explores the pluses and pitfalls of higher education in Britain today – a comprehensive look at a generation of graduates as they enter a tumultuous, competitive jobs market.
The system of higher education in this country has never been more productive. It has never been easier to obtain a student loan, making it possible for almost anyone with the drive to do so to get into a university. Numbers of people attending university are at an unprecedented high. Despite warning of a looming economic recession, researchers are claiming that graduate schemes are paying more than ever before.
But this graduate ‘golden era’ may not be quite as plentiful as it seems: students are finding themselves in increasing amounts of debt; they are entering a fiercely competitive atmosphere; and more and more they are discovering that their golden ticket to a cushy job is not as valuable as they once believed.
Can it really be true that the British graduate is in the midst of a crisis?
