Shazia Mirza

Shazia Mirza is a rare breed; a female Muslim comic. She has been performing stand-up for five years, during which time she has completed sell out tours around the globe, been crowned winner of the Hackney Empire new act competition (2001), and gained ‘The Young Achiever of the Year Award' at the Government's Leadership and Diversity Awards.

Shazia questions whether comedy is particularly popular within the Muslim community...

Shazia ventures that time can be wasted, creativity curbed and comedic value stunted when  too great a concern is given to whether others are being offended...

Shazia refuses to be controlled by legislation...
