In response to the UN General Assembly Special Session calling for a drug-free world, the new UK government Drug Strategy was initiated in 1998. It proposed a 4-strand aim. To:
- reduce the supply of illegal drugs
- prevent young people from becoming drug misusers
- reduce drug-related crime
- reduce the use of drugs through increased participation in treatment programmes
Evidence has shown, that in spite of increasingly stringent drug legislation over the past quarter century, drug use and dependency have increased in the UK. People are high regardless of the law.
This site is an exploration of some of the issues surrounding current UK drug legislation and its effectiveness.
