Are women still seen as having the sole responsibility around the house?
Or is the role of the domestic goddess dead with the black and white television.
Could it be that recycling campaigns and websites are targeting women because they are still responsible for waste management and domestic life around the house?
A study conducted by Muller and Schienberg into gender and waste management in Amsterdam claims: “Given women’s primary responsibility for cleaning, food preparation, family health, laundry, and domestic maintenance. Women and men have different ideas about what is waste and garbage.”
But are we just recycling old stereotypes.
Colin Fitzgerald 44 Hampton Drive says: “My wife doesn’t do everything around the house we share the responsibility. Take it in turns. We both work about the same amount of hours so I can’t expect her to do everything though sometimes believe me I’d like her to. I really don’t like recycling I can’t see the point in it but these days we can’t not because its all our local council will pick up it is annoying though and adds to the weekly chores.”
