UK Exhibition celebrates Indian independence
July 19, 2007
A Manchester museum is hosting an exhibition from July 28 to November 4 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Indian Independence and formation of Pakistan.
The Imperial War Museum North presents a small but powerful display of around 30 photographs and additional events to celebrate one of the major events of the 20th century - the 60th anniversary of the Indian Independence and establishment of Pakistan.
Archive photographs from the museum's compilation coupled with individual stories and photographs of local people, life and freedom will provide an interesting glimpse of the vast contributions made by Indian people during Independence and partition of their country.
2007 marks the 60th Anniversary of India’s freedom from the British Empire as well as the separation of India and Pakistan.
These two extremely significant events resulted in huge population shifts and accelerated the pace of British departure from the Indian Empire.
