Yummy Mummy's-are we obsessed?
by Kate Harvey
A documentary to be broadcast on Living TV will ask if celebrity mothers and their rapid weight-loss put unnecessary pressure on new mothers following the births of their children.
The programme will be fronted by Lisa Scott-Lee, formerly of pop group Steps, who recently had her first child.
The singer said that since having her son, all her dealings with the media included questions concerning her figure. She told bounty.com:
"I think we're all slightly obsessed with weight and sizes and it really saddens me. I'd much rather talk about Jaden and motherhood."
But is size the most significant pressure for everyday mothers?
At a Salvation Army Mother and Toddler Group in Branksome, Poole, this morning Kerry Island said the antics of celebrities just don't interest her.
"Teenagers are interested in that but for me as a Mum of two....I mean I'm envious of their figures and their lifestyle, but I haven't got the time and money to have a personal trainer doing my two hours of gym and intensive training that they must be doing to look like that."
Research conducted for this website surveyed a group of mothers. One in five highlighted regaining pre-pregnancy figure as causing anxiety after giving birth, but far more common was anxiety around feeling of sadness after giving birth and the question of whether or not to breastfeed their child.
