Women for Islam

Diana, 18, of Bogota, Colombia came to England to study. She didn’t know anything about Islam until she met her Muslim Syrian boyfriend and although they are no longer together she decided to carry on with her conversion process. Diana is 18 years old and converted to Islam three months ago.  Diana changed her name to Aasiyah.

Maria, 29, was born in Spain, grew up in a catholic family but was not really committed to her faith: “I thought these things were only for weak people who need to believe in something, thinking of religions used to make me ill.”

Maria came to England two years ago and met her husband, a Muslim man from Tunisia. Five months after getting married they went to Tunisia to meet her husband’s family, during the Ramadan. “Everything started as a cultural experience, I just thought I could loose some weight because you can’t eat anything before the sunset.”

These are their impressions... (1 min)

Why are non-Muslim women attracted to young Muslim men these days?

Ruqaiyyah Waris Maqsood is the author of some forty books on Islam and other subjects.

Listen to what Mrs Waris Maqsood has to say about what could be just the beginning of a Muslim conversion… (59 sec)

Mrs Waris Maqsood thinks this a serious issue: “We have a lot of problems with a lot of girls being left pregnant by young Muslim men who shouldn’t have had any sex at all. Quite often they have dates with English girls but they won’t marry them because of their family background.”

Ruqaiyyah also converted to Islam in 1986 after her marriage was breaking down. Her husband wasn’t particularly religious but suddenly became involved with the scientologists and he became very fanatical: “I began to travel abroad to some Muslim countries, I was impressed.”
