A civil servant from the department of culture, media and sport has stated that the Government including Mr Prescott has nothing to do with the selection of Britain’s first super Casino site.

Peter Doogan stressed that government has delegated its powers on the issue,

“Central government has nothing to do with it and the site is chosen by an independent commission, I have no real insight into the selection process”.

Mr Prescott has been under pressure from the public and opposition Parties following a series of meetings with tycoon Philip Anschutz whose company AEG own the Millennium Dome.

Mr Prescott denies that discussions about the Dome hosting the Casino occurred since they began in 2002 despite the Docklands landmark making the final shortlist,

“It's quite normal under all government that you can separate the secretary of state from these decisions, because they are inevitably talking with people."

Despite the protestations of the Deputy Prime Minister the mood remains bleak in the Domes biggest rival of Blackpool. Conservative Councilor Peter Callow fears that this could end their chances of hosting the multi million pound venture claiming the odds are stacked against the resort.
