Of course with accommodation for under £40 they have to get you somewhere, perhaps at the bar? In Vegas this is certainly not the case with many Casinos offering free drinks whilst gaming. On the rare occasions a trip to the bar is needed both gaming and cash machines are in place to keep visitors entertained.

In essence Las Vegas is designed to enflame the senses and with the bright lights, scantily clad hostesses and free drinks its easy to imagine a spin on the roulette table being a tempting proposition.

It is of course a widely known fact that Las Vegas is a gambling Mecca so it’s hardly surprising that the Casinos will attract tourists by whatever means necessary, Las Vegas itself is big business for the whole of the US.

In 2005 alone gambling revenue from Las Vegas and Nevada was $24852118000. Also in 2005 a total of 38,566,717 visitors landed in Las Vegas and the overall average occupancy rate for all forms of accommodation was 89.2%. This is clearly a massive success story for the economy, not bad for an uninhabitable mirage in the desert.

Clearly towns on the shortlist to house Britain’s first Super Casino resort are hoping for something approaching this blockbuster magic to rub off. If Las Vegas is anything to go by it will. However as Rich Hall puts it there is a human price,

“Las Vegas was built for one purpose: To placate people whilst relieving them of their money. It appeals to that substantial percentile of people who are too stupid, complacent and docile to do anything other than eat, gamble, copulate, then eat some more.”
