The global perspective
It is the intention of this website to localise the issue of climate change for the people of Bournemouth and the surrounding area.
However, climate change has the potential to change the world we live in. But why should people in the UK be worried about everyone else?
Dr. Natasha Grist is a senior research assistant at the Tyndall centre for climate change research with a particular interest in the threat to developing countries.
She says: "Climate change has a range of impacts such as increases in sea level, flooding and food shortages which are likely to particularly affect Africa and other developing countries. There will be water shortages, three billion people are expected to be undergoing some sort of water stress by 2080. Certain vectors of disease, for example malaria, will increase, as well as changes in biodiversity. All of this will happen in both developed countries and developing countries but developing countries have less capability to respond so I think it is very important to focus on them. Climate change has primarily been caused by high levels of emissions the majority of which have come from developed countries. There is an element of attributing the responsibility developed countries."
One way of motivating change in this country can be gaining a greater understanding of how the global population will cope with climate change. To find out more explore the links on the right.
