The Conservatives rule Bournemouth with a huge majority – winning a landslide 23 seats from the Liberal Democrats at the last election in May 2007.
Bournemouth is therefore made up of 40 Conservative councillors, 7 Liberal Democrats, 4 Independents and 3 Labour.
The Conservative-ruled council has a leader (Stephen MacLoughlin), deputy-leader (John Beesley) and a cabinet of eight other Conservative members responsible for different key areas.
Bournemouth’s 54 councillors split-up into various panels and boards to make decisions, which are then referred to the cabinet and finally to full council meetings.
A diary of all public meetings is available on the council website, where you can also get involved with a consultation about their constitution.
