Many organisations have come to the support of the international trainee doctors after the new rules. Here is a list of some of them:
BAPIO (BRITISH ASSOCIATION OF PHYSICIANS OF INDIAN ORIGIN)
BAPIO was formed in 1996 in Bedford and was launched in 1998. It has close links with the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin In last three years has become a strong national voice for doctors of Indian Origin with 2,000 doctors as its members.
The Indian Origin implies people who have origins in the countries of the Indian sub-continent including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
The Physicians of Indian origin have made significant contributions in building and sustaining the National Health Service and though the very community is named after the country of origin it has stood vital to fight the cause of the immigrant trainee doctors after the new permit free training law was abolished.
