Hundreds of immigrant doctors facing unemployment have already left the UK as Home Office delays reviewing regulations on work permits.
About 300 doctors who staged protests outside the Department of health in April have called it quits in a bid to convince the UK home office and are returning home
The bill for reviews on the regulations was introduced by local MPS only yesterday according to the chair person of the Forum of International Bio Medical Association, DR Rehman Khan.
Dr Khan added that doctors who were training under the NHS for almost 3 years felt “betrayed” when they were asked to pack up and leave.
He said, “It was disheartening to witness hundreds of potential doctors leave especially a lot many of them who had partially completed their training.”
“The response from the MPS is positive but it is already too late for the many that have already left.” He added that the matter was forwarded to the Health Select Committee yesterday.
The new immigration laws introduced at the end of last year no longer allows non EU doctors to complete their NHS training without work permits.
Protests were also held by the BAPIO (British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) last month as it claimed a majority of the doctors who were directly affected were Indians.
Dr Khan denied these claims saying among the immigrant doctors were also Sri lankans, Pakistanis and others from African countries.
