Doctors raise mixed feelings on Judicial Review

A few trainee doctors have now said that the judicial review will not affect the new work permit laws.

“It’s just another pretext for the government to fool the immigrants”, said doctor Peeyush who is one of the affected doctors leaving the country because of the new regulation.

“Nothing is going to change. At the end of the day they will treat you like a foreigner and so you will have to leave. It is wasteful to think positive. I will never return to the UK again.” He said

Dr Umesh Prabhu, vice chairman of the BAPIO has said that he already knew what the result was going to be and it did not sound positive.

“I am not as optimistic as the other doctors are because I know how the Department of Health works. My gut feeling tells me that we are unlikely to win the case. But I don’t want to dampen the spirits of the other doctors who are fighting this case.”

The notice for judicial review was an initiative taken by the BAPIO to plead against the government in order to review the regulations on work permit laws for trainee doctors. The move has already been introduced in the parliament by MP Austin Mitchell who has got the support of about 52 other Mp’s in the House of Commons.

The BAPIO general secretary Dr Satheesth Mathew has said that he was confident about their victory because if the government does not budge it was have the similar consequences as well in the long run.

The government’s decision is still pending but there are rumours that the decision will be due any time in the beginning of August.
