On the third of April the UK home office announced the abolition of permit free training for immigrant doctors currently working in the UK. The law was to be implemented with immediate effect and meant the sudden dismissal of over 15,000 doctors.
People all over the world watched in disbelief as the fate of Non-EU doctors changed overnight. Doctors who came in hope of a successful future saw their dreams shattered. Thousands already left with no glimmer of hope and thousands are still fighting for their cause. Without a basic right to even fight back against the governing order of a foreign country they stick to their faith and hope for the best.
The UK government justified their retrospective action as a need to provide jobs to their dying local graduates who claimed to be unemployed. The theory has been much debated by the heads of immigrant organisations as one of their false excuses.
Contradictions and controversies worsened after government officials claimed to have issued prior warnings to the NHS trust hospitals towards the enforcement of this new law.
Active foreign organisations and medical associations like the BAPIO and the BMA revoked the regulations and asked for the government to review their sanctions.
Their fight continues to this day as they wait for the verdict which would decide the fate of thousands.
