Countryside
Romania’s countryside appears almost untouched by the changes that have taken hold in Bucharest and other cities since the Revolution in 1989.
But once EU agricultural reforms set in this is where some of the biggest changes will be seen.
The EU have specialised funding for those working in agriculture, but some believe the reforms are endangering traditional peasant life:
But others consider the reforms to be a blessing in disguise:
In order to help reform the countryside Romania has been given increased access to structural funds, with at least 4 billion euros earmarked to help farmers make necessary changes between 2007-2009.
But according to Galati journalist Anca Spânu Tudor: “It’s very difficult to meet agricultural reforms. Not many people know how to carry out the bureaucratic paperwork. People don’t know all the rules and in some cases this is the government's fault because they haven't advertised the rules."
