Childminders celebrate Childminding
Week
June 20
Events as part of National Childminding Week are taking place across the country.
Childminders and the children they look after have been taking part in activities geared around reading to highlight the role they play in supporting literacy and mark the National Year of Reading.
The poet and children’s author, Roger McGough said: “I know how important reading and literacy is, especially for children.
“During National Childminding Week, NCMA [National Childminding Association] members will be letting the community know how they are uniquely placed to support language, literacy and creativity by putting on different activities to encourage children’s love of reading.”
In Gloucestershire activities arranged for children include picnics and outings to local parks, visiting Children’s Centres and community venues.
Children will be able to dress up as their favourite story character and visit a local fire station to have a story read to them by the real Fireman Sam.
Elaine Warner, a childcare development officer from Gloucestershire County Council said: "The county council's learning and development childminding team has been working with local associations, support groups and children's centres to organise events all over Gloucestershire.”
The NCMA organised Childminding Week to highlight the contribution childminders and nannies make to family lives.
