Liberty has blasted the government's ID card plans saying their benefits are empty promises.

A spokesperson for the civil rights organisation expressed their "main concern" saying the government "haven't made a case for the ID cards."

"The government haven't shown themselves to be particularly competent at managing databases.

Commenting on the storage of fingerprints and biometric information, Liberty added: "Do we really trust the government to hold this incredibly personal data on us? I don't think we're quite ready for that yet."
