Hundreds of People join in leukaemia walk
The Forget Me Not Walks 2008 began in Bournemouth this year and were launched by Leukaemia Research to raise money.
Over 150 people joined the five-kilometre walk last Sunday, andmost of the participants had many connections with the disease.
Susan Fay’s father died of lymphoma many years ago. She said: “It’s good for us to be together in memory of him on Father’s Day, but it’s also a way to remember people that are actually suffering from leukaemia.
“Leukaemia is a kind of disease that people think only happens to young people. And a lot of times, these children are able to live longer lives, but for my dad, there was no chance for him.”
Organiser of Leukaemia Research Mellisa Huston said: “We are raising money as well as promoting a healthy life style. And it’s also a little special for people who set up funds for they loved ones."
Dave and Ann Edwards came from Southampton to join the walk, “We’re walking in memory our son who died of leukaemia. He has been gone eight years, and we’d like to donate for the charity.
The walk held in Chester last September raised £25,000 for the charity.
The next two walks will be held in Southport on 29 June and Chester on 7 July.
