Emissions technology ‘impresses’ in London presentation
by David Kyle

A camera which reads emissions levels coming from cars has ‘impressed’ Transport for London representatives according to Enviro Technology’s Stephen Hoskin.

Mr Hoskin, Air Quality Sales Manager for the company, was presenting the Accuscan 4600 in London on Tuesday afternoon.

He said: “There is no doubt that people were undoubtedly impressed with the camera. We are confident that it will do what Transport for London wants.”

Cars with higher carbon emissions could be charged a higher Congestion fee

“The point of the presentation was to create awareness that the technology is around and it works well. There is still a lot of work to do.”

The camera has the capabilities to track the emission levels of 4,000 cars per hour, and was used for a total of four hours from 11am to 3pm on the day of presentation.

Although the technology is unseen before in London, Stephen Hoskin was quick to point out that the technology is far from new.

He said: “It’s not a demonstration as such. We know the technology works, it’s been around for twenty years. Of course it is now quicker and measures more types of emission.”

The presentation coincides with rumours circulating that Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, is thinking of charging higher congestion fees for cars with higher emissions.

Bloomberg.com reports that Mr Livingstone reported to the General London Assembly that he is studying ‘a plan to base the charge on how much carbon dioxide a vehicle emits.’
