What a judge has to say

His Honour Judge Harvey Clark QC for Bournemouth Crown Court has been a judge for three and a half years and before that he was a barrister for 35 years. He has strong views on helping drug addicts overcome addiction. He said:

“I do not believe a short sentence of imprisonment is likely to change a drug addict’s approach to life. Therefore I try very hard to consider alternatives through schemes in helping drug addicts overcome their addiction with the help of the probation service.

“I’m concerned at the moment there is pressure on the probation service on the budget. The probation service should receive more money to further the help they can offer.”
